Product Favorite: Kelley Baker Brows

Your eyebrows frame the face and are critical to making you look your most beautiful self. My favorite suite of brow products right now is the Kelley Baker Brow set. You can truly have your own set of amazing arches by following just a few brow tricks. And if you want a touch up with me, come see me and we’ll get your started.

1: Analyze your brows. Are they too thick or too thin? Do you need to grow hair?

Too thick?

  • Decide how you are going to groom them. You have three choices: waxing, threading, plucking/shaving. The first two you need professional help. The last (plucking/shaving) you can do yourself and I can show you how.
  • Always brush your brows before shaping them, and before you put on makeup. Set thick brows with a clear brow gel.

Too thin?

  • There is a cure. Brow hair growers! They really work. I offer the award winning Revitabrow. Use it every night. It really works, so when you have to pluck, show some gratitude!
  • Even thin brows need a pluck or a shave of errant hairs that don’t fit with your brow shape. I know, I know, it seems like heresy since you don’t have a lot to start with, but still, what you have… needs to be shaped.

2. What is the best brow shape for me?

  • If the brows are too short, your face looks small and your nose looks fatter. If the brows are too long, your face looks super thin.
  • Downward sloping tails on the brow can make you look like a sad puppy dog.
  • Too high an arch = angry grandma. And if your brows are naturally straight, go with it! If you have an arch, it should line up with the outer edge of your pupil, in terms of where is starts to raise up. How high up should it go? The “Arch Peak” is approximately another full “open eye” from the base of the brow.
  • And remember, brows are “sisters” not twins. They will not be exactly symmetrical to one another.

3. Grooming

  • The main area to worry about: unibrow territory. Line up a pencil on the outer edge of your nostril straight up. This is where the brow should start. Anything on the bridge of the nose has to go. (Men too!)
  • If you need help, see a professional (like me!) to get the shape right, and then just keep up with the shape yourself via plucking or shaving. As Scott Barnes says, “The things I love about using a razor comb as opposed to plucking with tweezers are that you don’t get ingrown hairs and if you decide you want to grow your brows back, you haven’t taken out the follicle, which is what you do when you pluck. Once the follicle is removed, it takes much longer for the brow to grow back.”
  • Yes, you need a magnifying mirror!

4. Filling in brows

  • The color of your brow should be a bit darker (1 to 2 shades) than your hair color. The Kelley Baker Brow Powder is brown is a universal color that looks awesome on just about everyone.
  • To fill in brows you have a few choices: powder, pencil or creme. I find the most natural looking is a brow powder. And you can seal it with brow gel so it lasts all day. Short, angled strokes in an upward direction are best with any of the above formats (pencil, powder or creme). This brow brush is the bomb and dual-ended. It’s the perfect shape for natural looking brows. Use it to brush the powder in an upward direction. Brush afterwards with a clean spooley brush - the other side of this brush - or disposable spooley brushes are available at the drugstore.
  • For a final polished look, or for special events, use a highlighter to really give the perfect look to the brow. This last step can make the brow look full as well. Sweep the highlighter pencil under the brow, and use a highlighter brush in a window wiping fashion to blend the highlighter just right up to the bottom of the brow. Instant face-lift!

    Now go frame that face!
