Let them see the whites of your eyes!

Everybody looks more alert with that special twinkle in their eye, when their scleras (aka “the whites of their eyes”) look super white - especially for special events.

I periodically test out a eye drops that I read about to see if they actually do make my sclera more white. The best I have found: CollyreBleu Laiter(TM). The drops are a well-kept secret among makeup artists. They work for me - a noticeable difference in the whites of my eyes. I carry the drops in my kit for my brides but I also offer them to my regular clients. Ingredients:

  • Aqua
  • Boric acid
  • Chamomilla recutita extract
  • Anthemis nobilis extract
  • Malva sylvestris extract
  • Sodium chloride
  • Sodium borate

And the non-winners are…Ye olde standby…Visine Original…does NOT “get the red out”, at least for me. Active ingredient: Tetrahydrozoline HCl 0.05%. I have also tried out ROHTO V Cool drops. These are not only supposed to take the red out but also to soothe tired eyes. Unfortunately, I found the cooling ingredient (is it the menthol?) was very irritating to my eye and very uncomfortable. No noticeable reduction in red either.

Finally, I have also used special eye drops from Japan which I read about in one of my makeup artist magazines. Supposedly Black Eyed Peas’ lead singer Fergie uses them and if she doesn’t have red eyes after all those BOOM BOOM concerts, then I don’t know who does! They are called Sante FX NEO. These things are really powerful (Level 5 in the world of Santen eye drops - the makers of these drops) and are only available in Japan and apparently Honolulu. I ordered them over the web, and caveat emptor, yikes, these things are COOL. Really, really strong. Even though every stoner on the web says that these are the all time best product to whiten your eyes, I didn’t really find them to be that good, and again, I found the cooling ingredients very irritating. Ingredients: NA

If you wear contacts, consult with your eye doctor before using these drops. Generally they are not recommended for soft contact users as they could tint the contact.

So again, I say the winner is Collyre Bleu Latier, and you can get them from me.

PS: Applying eye drops is easy. Gently and slightly pull down the bottom part of your eye. Hold the dropper close till you see a drop form at the tip. Touch the drop to your sclera and it will release into the eye. Violá. And you don’t even have to tip your head….And if really in a pinch, you can do this after makeup is on the eye (if you have to… otherwise, apply eyedrops before makeup.)
