Fact Or Fiction: I have to change up my skincare…

Fact or Fiction: Your skin gets used to ingredients so you should switch products periodically.

FICTION.

Recently I had a previously long-term client who had stopped using R+F come back to me, saying that she was suffering from adult acne and asking if I could I help her.

After reviewing what she was using now, and assessing what was going on with her skin (over Zoom of course), I got her on a regimen that first removed the irritation and second addressed the acne. After two weeks, she emailed me: “Skin looks sooooo much better. I don’t know why I strayed from R+F in the first place. It was working well for me.”

We can all be tempted by the next “shiny thing” or promises of the “skincare silver bullet”. I get it. The truth is that many variables can affect the daily results you experience from using your skincare Regimen. BUT your skin alone will not become immune over time to the clinical benefits of the products. Product efficacy depends on a variety of things, such as the active ingredients in a formula and your skin’s changing needs. Therefore, there’s no need to change your Regimen unless you develop new skin concerns OR your skin is ready for more active ingredients.

Then, you may opt to gradually increase concentrations of stronger ingredients like retinoids, glycolic acid and niacin, once your skin can tolerate them. I can recommend the right products for you that will continue to get you the best skin of your life.
