Curling those lashes to open up your peepers!

What’s the one single thing that most makeup artists suggest you do to make your eyes look larger? Curl your lashes…here’s how.

For most people, the natural slope of their lashes make their lashes appear shorter. And worse, some gals’ lashes actually grow downward. So what? Lashes can automatically look longer when curled upwards. And curling them up actually reduces the shadows that are cast by the lashes onto your under eye area. Plus as we age, our lashes get thinner. Curling them makes them look thicker and adds dimension to the shape of your eyes.

There are basically two types of lash curlers. The traditional crimpers and the new heated lash curlers that are straight. There are pros and cons to both:

Crimpers:

  • Pros: Quick, effective if used correctly.
  • Cons: Easy to create an “L” shape instead of a curl; can be intimidating until learned well; hard to get to the corners to curl those lashes; may not accurately reflect the shape of your eye; cannot use after mascara or primer have been applied.

    Heated Lash Curlers:

    • Pros: Can use before and after lash primer and mascara; easy to get into the corner lashes; not intimidating.
    • Cons: Have to wait approximately 20 seconds to heat up; requires a battery; takes a bit longer to curl the lashes.

    • I use both a crimper and a heated eyelash curler, depending on the situation. When I’m in a hurry, I use the crimper. I usually crimp the lashes one to two times before applying my lash primer. But when I am going out to a big party, or doing a bride, I use the heated lash curler. I first curl the lashes, then apply primer, then curl again, then apply two coats of mascara, then curl again with the heated curler! Wow! Big peepers!
